Plan the months between trips.
Choosing a place to park and preparing a vehicle for storage are separate jobs. Put both on a dated plan and use the instructions for your actual RV and installed equipment.
Space Index planning guide · Editorial reviewStart with the equipment instructions
Gather the owner’s manual and the instructions for the systems fitted to your RV. Identify the preparation and inspection tasks that apply to your model, storage conditions and duration. Use a qualified service provider when the instructions or your experience require one.
Go RVing Canada discusses seasonal storage and winter preparation as separate concerns from the choice of parking space. Its general guidance is a starting reference; the applicable manufacturer procedures and site conditions should govern the work on your rig. This guide does not supply mechanical winterization instructions.
Assign responsibility explicitly
Ask whether the storage provider supplies only space or also offers separately arranged preparation, inspection or retrieval services. Do not assume those services come with a seasonal price.
Record who holds the keys, who may move the rig, who checks it, how issues are reported and how you can arrange access. If service work is planned, confirm that the site permits it and whether the service provider can enter. A named task needs an actual responsible person, not an assumption.
Match access to your inspection plan
Check gate hours, appointment rules, weather-related access provisions if stated, and any retrieval notice. If regular inspections are part of your equipment’s storage instructions, the contract and access arrangement must let you carry them out.
Keep a dated handoff record of the vehicle’s condition and your own inventory. Avoid leaving access credentials or personal documents in a public listing note. The website’s research shortlist stores listing IDs, not a private maintenance record or a booking.
Plan the return before the first departure
Record the intended pickup date, preparation for return to use, required service appointments and any contract notice. Check what happens if the trip moves earlier or later. A seasonal package may have different extension or early-removal terms from an ordinary recurring rental.
Compare quotes in their native currency and period. Include known service charges and deposits separately. An enclosed or covered category does not itself establish environmental conditions, maintenance services or a guarantee against damage. Confirm the facts that matter to your equipment and plan.
Your checklist.
- Model and system instructions
- Preparation and inspection responsibilities
- Permitted service access
- Keys and vehicle-movement authorization
- Inspection and pickup windows
- Seasonal term, extension and notice rules
Questions worth asking.
Does indoor storage remove every winter preparation requirement?
Do not assume that. Follow the instructions for the actual vehicle, systems and confirmed storage conditions.
Does a seasonal rate include winterization?
Only if the provider explicitly includes it and specifies the service. Parking space alone does not establish that.
